JAGO NARI and PSTU Forge Strategic Partnership to Advance Climate Resilience and Disaster Management Research

Patuakhali, Bangladesh | 13 November 2025 — JAGO NARI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Environmental Science and Disaster Management at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU), marking a significant step toward strengthening collaborative research, capacity development, and community-focused interventions across coastal Bangladesh.
The MoU was formally signed at PSTU by Ms. Hosne Ara Hasi, Chief Executive of JAGO NARI, and Prof. Dr. Md. Mohasin Hussain Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Science and Disaster Management. The ceremony was attended by senior faculty members including Prof. Dr. Ahmed Parvez, Chairman, Department of Environmental Science; Prof. Dr. Md. Shahsuzoha, Chairman, Department of Emergency Management; Mawya Siddeqa, Associate Professor & Chairman, Department of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation; along with other teachers, officials, and representatives of JAGO NARI.
A brief discussion session followed, where both institutions expressed their commitment to advancing evidence-based research, promoting disaster-resilient practices, and jointly contributing to sustainable development in Bangladesh’s coastal belt.
Scope and Significance of the MoU
The partnership aims to expand the scope of academic–practitioner collaboration through joint research, project development, skill-building initiatives, and knowledge exchange. Key areas of cooperation include:
- Comprehensive training programs on early warning systems, anticipatory action, and household-level contingency planning for coastal communities.
- Joint initiatives on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation to strengthen coastal resilience.
- Assessment of local triggers and thresholds for anticipatory action in vulnerable regions.
- Analysis of social, economic, and livelihood losses faced by at-risk populations.
- Identification of structural and underlying drivers of climate-induced vulnerability.
- Co-development of new project concepts and assessments for external funding opportunities.
- Academic and non-academic skill development for students, faculty, and JAGO NARI staff.
- Engagement of PSTU students as interns, fellows, volunteers, enumerators, or research assistants aligned with JAGO NARI’s thematic areas.
- Highlighting social and economic implications of climate change on children, women, poor, and marginalized coastal households.
