Practical training on weather forecasting equipment held in Kalapara, Patuakhali

On Monday, April 21, 2026, a practical training on rain gauges, wind sock and flood alarms was held at Char Chapli Islamia High School in Kalapara, Patuakhali under the Child-Centered Early Action-CCAA project, where the installation and practical application of these equipment were demonstrated. Participants received hands-on instruction to understand their effective operation. The session was attended by members of the Met Club Committee, school teachers, UP representatives and guardians. The program was successfully completed with the active participation of all those present.
This initiative was implemented by JAGO NARI, with technical assistance from Save the Children and financial assistance from GFFO (German Federal Foreign Office).
The main objective of this session was to enhance the capacity of local stakeholders, especially students and community members, to understand and use the basics of weather forecasting and early warning equipment. The aim of this effort is to strengthen disaster preparedness and climate resilience at the community level.

During the training, participants received practical demonstrations and hands-on experience of the following tools. Participants learned about rain gauges for measuring rainfall, wind sock for detecting wind direction and intensity, and flood alarm systems for early warning of rising water levels.
The session followed an interactive and participatory approach, which included live demonstrations of instrument installation, practical exercises for operating the instruments, explanations of how the collected data can help in early warning and preparedness, open discussions, and a question and answer session. This hands-on learning approach ensured that participants clearly understood both the functionality and importance of these instruments in real-life situations.

The training was attended by stakeholders from various fields, including Met Club Committee members, school teachers, Union Parishad representatives, parents and community members. All the participants actively participated in the sessions and showed great interest in acquiring and applying knowledge. The training is expected to improve practical knowledge about weather observation tools, increase awareness on disaster risk reduction and climate change, strengthen the capacity of school-based weather clubs, and improve community preparedness to deal with floods and extreme weather events.
