JAGO NARI’s Resilience Innovation Program has opened the door to new possibilities to address climate change risks, provide early response based on disaster forecasting, and strengthen the protection of vulnerable populations. On this occasion, an awareness meeting was held at the district level on Thursday, April 9, at the conference room of the Barguna Deputy Commissioner.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mr. Animesh Biswas was present as the chief guest in this meeting organized in Barguna. The meeting was presided over by Jagonari’s Executive Member and P. P, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Adv. Ranjuara Sipu.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Abul Fattah, Head of Field Office of the World Food Program Md. Mamun Al Azad, Alhaj Advocate Md. Nurul Amin (P.P.), Barguna District and Sessions Judge Court, Advisor to JAGO NARI Monir Hossain Kamal, Barguna Press Club President Md. Hafizur Rahman and Secretary Abu Zafar Saleh, along with officials from various departments of the district administration, NGO representatives and representatives of civil society participated in the meeting.

The meeting highlighted the activities, goals and objectives of WFP. In addition, an informative presentation was presented on the detailed activities, implementation strategies and expected results of the project. It is known that the project will mainly work to increase the capacity of coastal communities through forecast-based anticipatory action, disaster-sensitization of social safety nets and implementation of climate risk insurance programs

In the open discussion, participants described the project as timely and relevant, provided various constructive suggestions, and emphasized its effective implementation.

In his speech, the chief guest wished for the success of the project and urged the relevant development partners, including the World Food Programme and Jagonari, to further strengthen the cyclone shelter-based activities.

The stakeholders believe that this participatory discussion will play an important role in formulating future action plans and increasing climate resilience.

Health Rights Forum and Youth Forum have taken strong initiatives to implement Jagonari under the Bangladesh Health Watch Project to prevent measles in Barguna.

The Barguna District Health Rights Forum has announced to take various initiatives to increase awareness, strengthen vaccination activities and improve the quality of healthcare to prevent the spread of measles in Barguna. With this goal, the regular meeting of the District Health Rights Youth Forum and the annual planning meeting of the District Health Rights Forum were held to improve the quality of health services in Barguna.

In this meeting, held from morning to noon on Wednesday (April 8), various important issues of the health sector were discussed in detail. Especially since the measles outbreak has increased in Barguna in recent times, emphasis was placed on taking effective steps to prevent this disease.

The meeting, moderated by Youth Forum’s Zahidul Islam Mehedi, was presided over by Coordinator Mohiuddin Apu. On the other hand, the main meeting held under the chairmanship of Monir Hossain Kamal of the District Health Rights Forum was presided over by the forum’s president, Hasanur Rahman.

The speakers present at the meeting said that although measles is a highly contagious disease, it is completely preventable through timely vaccination and awareness raising. But in many cases, the risk of this disease is increasing due to the lack of awareness of parents, reluctance to receive vaccination and limitations in healthcare in remote areas.

In his speech as the president, Hasanur Rahman Jhantu said, we have to work together to prevent measles outbreaks in Barguna. We have to ensure that every child is covered by vaccination. In this regard, the local administration, health department and social organizations have to work together.

Youth Forum Coordinator Mohiuddin Apu said, we will strengthen awareness activities at the field level by involving the youth. Awareness will be raised among parents by conducting campaigns in schools, colleges and rural areas.

At the meeting, Jagonari’s Women Development Officer Afroz Sultana Akhi said, “Creating awareness among women is very important. Because mothers play the most important role in child health care. Therefore, we are taking special activities targeting them.”

Program Director Golam Mostafa said, “We will implement various development programs to improve the quality of health care and reach out to marginalized communities. In addition to vaccination activities to prevent measles, emphasis will also be placed on increasing the capacity of hospitals and health workers.”

Another decision taken at the meeting was to hold awareness meetings, yard meetings, leaflet distribution, and health camps or help desks at hospitals at the community level. At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed hope that through joint efforts, it will be possible to quickly control measles infection in Barguna and the quality of health care will improve further.

Md. Hridoy, a resident of Molla Kanda village in Moudubi union of Rangabali upazila of Patuakhali district, is currently a successful and active maize farmer under the Pradripta project. With the aim of livelihood development and using modern agricultural methods, he started maize farming on 1 bigha of land.

Under the Pradripta project implemented by JAGO NARI and managed with the technical assistance of CARE Bangladesh, he received training on income-generating technologies. He also received various inputs required for farming. From the project, he received hybrid sultan seeds, urea, TSP, MOP, gypsum, zinc sulphate, vermicompost, pesticides and a display signboard.

Following the modern methods taught in the training, he prepares the land, applies fertilizers at the right time and maintains it regularly. So far, he has spent about 4,000 taka on his maize farming.

Currently, the maize yield on his land is in very good condition and he expects to produce about 25-26 maunds of maize. This success will benefit him economically and play a significant role in increasing his family’s income.

This initiative by Md. Hridoy proves that rural farmers can also become self-sufficient through modern agriculture if they get the right training, technology and support.

The Women Lead in Emergencies (WiLE) project implemented by the non-governmental development organization Jagonari with financial support from the Agency Francis de Development (AFD) and technical assistance from CARE Bangladesh is being implemented in three unions (Aylapatakata, Chotobogi and Patharghata Sadar) of three upazilas (Barguna Sadar, Taltoli and Patharghata) of Barguna Sadar.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, JAGO NARI’s WiLE project jointly celebrated International Women’s Day with the District Women’s Affairs Department at the Suborno Joyanti Meeting Room of the Barguna District Administration on 8 March 2026.

The program was presided over by Mr. Ms. Taslima Akhter, Deputy Commissioner Barguna. In addition, respected government officials, respected political figures, NGO representatives, journalists, dignitaries, respected women leaders of Sudhi Samaj and Wiley Project women’s group were also present as guests.

On behalf of JAGO NARI, Hosne Ara Hasi, the respected Executive Head of JAGO NARI, delivered his valuable speech at the meeting. In his speech, he drew the attention of the District Administrator to ensuring equal status of women in all fields and equal wages for women’s work.

He especially emphasized the importance of equal wages for women fishermen on the coast who earn their living by fishing and the implementation of fisherman cards. He said that special steps must be taken to improve the lives and livelihoods of women who are neglected at the grassroots level.

The president of the event highlighted the need to increase women’s participation in various programs, develop women’s leadership in the decision-making process, and take necessary initiatives to ensure women’s safety.
