As the 22-day fishing ban comes to an end, coastal fishermen are preparing to head back out to sea. To enhance their safety and mitigate risks to both lives and property, the ‘PRODRIPTA’ project—implemented by JAGO NARI with support from CARE Bangladesh—has distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) to 120 medium-sized fishing boats.
On October 29, 2026, this safety equipment was handed over to the owners of 30 medium-sized fishing boats in the Kalapara Upazila of Patuakhali. Previously, under the same project, equipment was distributed to the owners of 90 boats in Rangabali Upazila.
Each package contained 5 life jackets, 5 life buoys, 5 whistles (with lanyards), and 1 flashlight.

The distribution event was attended by the District Fisheries Officer and the Kalapara Upazila Executive Officer (UNO). The District Fisheries Officer commended the initiative and emphasized the importance of the proper use, regular monitoring, and maintenance of the distributed safety equipment.
Our fishermen constantly risk their lives, battling the turbulent waves of the sea. Ensuring their safety is crucial—not only for the protection of their lives and families, but also for safeguarding coastal livelihoods and the economy.
