Grassroots Leadership and Resilience Journey
Asia Community Disaster Preparedness & Transformation (ACT) Programme is an endeavour of Oxfam in Bangladesh which is operational in 12 targeted communities in Bangladesh under 3 districts (Barishal, Barguna & Gaibandha) in cooperation with Wave Foundation, JAGO NARI & SKS Foundation. ACT programme is a multi-country project running in Nepal, Indonesia and Philippines which aims to ensure that communities affected by recurrent disasters in highly vulnerable areas in Asia have enhanced capacities for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, and are better equipped to co-lead on relief and recovery efforts in collaboration with local authorities. ACT works with the overall aim of reducing vulnerability and suffering among disaster-prone communities.
This booklet documents ten best practices under the objective of increasing capacities and leadership of target communities to enable local actors to respond effectively to small-scale disasters with special emphasis on transformative leadership roles of women and youth (Outcome 1 of ACT programme for the period 2021-2022).
The selected stories in the booklet provide good practices and generate learning relevant to feminist leadership to a wider scale or have a potential to become so in DRR and Humanitarian action. Good practices have been demonstrated by stories and testimonies of change. The aim of this booklet is to capture and share practices and experiences systemically to build collective knowledge and help strengthen local humani-tarian leadership to help communities be disaster ready.
