Dengue prevention activities begin in Barguna
A one and a half month-long activity (June 16 – July 30, 2025) to prevent dengue has begun in Barguna. Non-governmental development organizations JAGONARI and NSS are implementing these activities. Start Network is supporting the implementation of the activities. The main objective of this project is to provide rapid assistance to dengue-affected and vulnerable populations and launch awareness-based prevention activities.
The main activities to prevent dengue in Barguna are, 1. Cash assistance to cover medical expenses for 560 hospitalized dengue patients; 2. Cleaner assistance and help desk launched at Barguna Sadar Hospital for cleanliness; 3. Distribution of 100 foam mattresses, 4,000 IV saline, medicines, kits, 250 mosquito nets at Sadar Hospital; 4. Dengue awareness campaign in 30 areas; 5. 12 community-led cleaning campaigns; 6. Use of larvicide through 15 spray machines; 7. Recruitment and training of volunteers and health workers; 8. Encouraging awareness activities and volunteer work; 9. Organizing advocacy meetings in coordination with the Health Department.
It is expected that through this program, it will be possible to develop an integrated and participatory dengue prevention system in Barguna.
This year, the outbreak of dengue has increased across the country before the season. The outbreak of dengue in the coastal district of Barguna is unusual. The number of infected and dead is increasing every day. The Ministry of Health has already declared Barguna as a dengue hotspot. Barguna Municipality and Gaurichanna Union have been declared as red zones. In this context, a month-and-a-half-long program has been started in Barguna Municipality and Gaurichanna Union to prevent dengue. Meanwhile, JAGONARI’s volunteer team has started working at the field level.
