A Successful Farmer Practicing Climate Adaptive Agriculture
Mr. Monir, a dedicated farmer from Moudubi Union under Rangabali Upazila, lives with his wife, son, and daughter in a coastal community vulnerable to climate change. Traditionally a tripal farmer with average income, he used to manage his livelihood through small-scale crop cultivation and livestock rearing. However, unpredictable weather patterns and salinity intrusion frequently disrupted his agricultural productivity.
In 2025, Mr. Monir became a participant in the Prodrita Project, implemented by JAGO NARI with support of CARE Bangladesh, which aims to strengthen the resilience of local farmers through climate adaptive agriculture. As part of the project, he received seeds and fertilizer worth BDT 2,400, along with hands-on training on climate-resilient farming practices. Motivated and empowered by the new knowledge, Mr. Monir prepared his homestead garden and planted climate-resilient varieties of koralla (bitter gourd), cucumber, and chilli three months ahead of the regular season.
With increased attention and hard work in the field, Mr. Monir achieved remarkable success. Within a short time, he sold vegetables worth BDT 20,000 and expects to earn more than BDT 50,000 from the rest of his harvest. Encouraged by this success, he now plans to reinvest his income into further expanding climate adaptive agricultural practices in the upcoming season.
His story is a powerful example of how timely support, training, and determination can turn a small-scale farmer into a climate-resilient entrepreneur, cont ributing to food security and economic stability in vulnerable coastal regions.
