A story of a successful farmers
Sultan Mahamud, Age-55. Father Late: Abdul Aziz Kholifa, Mother: Hunufa Bibi, Village: Tilla, Union: Chhotta Baisdia, Rangabali.
Rangabali is the topmost disaster vulnerable Upazila under Patuakhali District due to its location at the mouth of the Bay of Bengle. People living here have to survive with various natural disasters including storms, cyclone, floods and others. I live in the Tilla village of Chhotta Baisdia union under this Upazila. There are five members in my family including two sons and my wife. Both sons are studding in high school and college.
Two or three years ago, my family was in a bad situation. The shortage were continued in my family and I could not provide even three times meals a day for the family due to my poor income. I am a shared farmers and could not produce much crops due to lack of understanding about modern agriculture.
In this circumstances in January 2022, Jago Nari started the implementation of the PRODRIPTA project in my village with the technical assistance of Care Bangladesh. I took this opportunities being a members of WDMC. As an active member I took modern agriculture training under PRODRIPTA project and registered my name in BAMIS portal. Due to my regular communication and good relation with the agriculture office, I received training, consultation on agriculture issue and different seeds like Boro paddy seeds, China Nuts seeds, Mug dal seeds, vegetable seeds and 5000 taka as nursing cost from Rangabali Agriculture office. As result in this year, I have produced 50 mounds paddy, 2 mounds ground nuts 1 mound Mug dal. A part of this, by growing various vegetable like cauliflower, cabbage, spinach, beans etc, I can meet my family needs and sell vegetable at least 2000 taka per month. Now with this income, it is no longer difficult for me to support family, to pay my two children education and all others expenses.
Finally, I would like to say that Care, Bangaldesh and JAGONARI PRODRIPTA project have opened my eyes. I would never have had a good relationship with the agriculture office and learned about modern agriculture and produced better product if I had not been involved in this project activity.
