Gender Role Shifting Game held at community level in Barguna
A gender role shifting game was held at community level under the Women Lead in Emergencies (WILI) project implemented by the development organization Jagonari in Barguna with technical assistance from CARE Bangladesh and financial assistance from the Agency Francis de Development (AFD).
The competition was held in six villages of three unions in three upazilas of the WILI project in Barguna district on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The competition was attended by dignitaries of the community and members of the women’s group as guests of honor and judges. 10 male members of the community were present as competitors in the competition. A men’s spice butter (onion and dried chili) competition was held at the event.
The main goal of this simulation game was to change the prevailing norms and ideas about the division of labor between men and women in society, ensure equal participation of men in family work, change the attitude of male members of society towards women’s work, respect women’s work, and increase gender equality and mutual respect in the community.
At the end of the competition, the contestants expressed their feelings and said, “Today, we have been able to understand through this game that women’s work is also difficult, honorable and worthy of importance. At the same time, they also expressed their attitude of cooperation towards women’s work.
