‘We dream of a bright future by cultivating vegetables using climate-adapted technology’
Light of Home in Eyes of Aklima. She is an housewife lived in Goinkhali with her husband Md, Shohidul Islam and three children under Chhotta Baisdia union, Rangabali Upazila which is the very disaster prone Upazila at Patuakhali District due to its geographical location at very near of the Bay of Bengle. People are bound to live hare by facing of various natural disasters including storms, cyclone, tidal surge and erratic rainfall.
Aklima’s are five members including her husband and 3 children (1 son and 2 daughters). Shohidul Islam managed his family by holding fish and occasionally selling by day labor with his limited income at vey distress. Aklima Begum also help her husband by cultivating homestead gardening, and rearing ducks and chicken to fulfill family and nutrition needs for a long in traditional methods.
In last July 2025, She received training and seeds and equipment’s (Tray, Yellow trap, Cockopeat and sex pheromone support from the PRODRIPTA project for cultivating climate Adaptive Vegetable Gardening and after receiving these, she planned to cultivate accordingly as she was taught in training. All the participants were strictly instructed to follow the training methods. After receiving, Aklima started for land preparation, initial fertilizing and carefully nursed the saplings and grew.
But sadly, after few days of growing of cucumber seeds, some saplings were damaged for the regular raining. But Aklima never be disappointed. She was continuing her efforts and paid close attention for nursing, wedding, timely watering and fertilizing and applied the proper techniques to protect and grow her cucumbers. She also keept the regular communication with Sub Assistance Agriculture Officer of Rangabali and project staffs.
As result, a good number of saplings were save and growing well and after one and half months she got more than 100 kgs cucumbers from her homestead garden. After fulfill the family demand and nutrition needs, Aklima could sell 80 kgs cucumber in PALKI -4 with the amount 4800 (kg 60).
Aklima and her husband never imagined such this huge production in her life, correctly both Aklima and her husband are very serious and carefully to cultivate vegetable by applying climate adaptive technologies and planned for future cultivation with this modern methods. Aklima said, “We dream of a bright future by cultivating vegetables using climate-adapted technology.”
