Jagonari’s initiative to conserve fresh water on the coast

Conserving fresh water for agricultural and domestic use is very important to address the increasing climate risks and salinity impacts in Rangabali Upazila of Patuakhali district. Keeping this goal in mind, JAGO NARI is implementing a sustainable water conservation initiative under the Pradhipta project, which is being implemented with technical assistance through CARE Bangladesh.
On 7 January 2026, the Khair Canal re-excavation project was inaugurated by Upazila Executive Officer Mr. Nahid Bhuiyan in Bhuiyan Kanda village of Moudubi Union for the purpose of conserving fresh water. Mr. Hosne Ara Hasi, Chief Executive of Jagonari and Mr. Bayezid Bostami, Project Manager of CARE Bangladesh were present as special guests at the inauguration ceremony.
Also present were project officers, members of the Project Implementation Committee (PIC), local dignitaries, political leaders and VSL members.
After the discussion, the guests officially declared the Khair Canal as inaugurated for the purpose of conserving fresh water.

JAGO NARI is hopeful that this initiative will play a significant role in increasing agricultural production, domestic water availability, and climate resilience in the area.
